  • South Africa's 'Prophet of Doom' condemned

A South Africa pastor who sprays his congregation with insecticide has been widely condemned.

In a Facebook post, self-proclaimed prophet Lethebo Rabalago claims a pesticide called Doom can heal people.

The company that produces Doom warned of the risks of spraying the substance, while a government commission urged anyone affected to lodge complaints.

But the pastor has defended his actions, telling the BBC he is using unconventional methods to heal people.

The country has seen a wave of practices where church members have been subjected to unorthodox rituals to receive healing.

In photos circulating on Facebook and Twitter, Mr Rabalago, who runs the Mount Zion General Assembly in the Limpopo province, is seen spraying the insecticide directly into the eyes and various body parts of his congregants.

He told the BBC's Nomsa Maseko in Johannesburg that he had sprayed the face of one woman because she had an eye infection and claimed the woman was "just fine because she believed in the power of God".

He also claims the spray can heal cancer and HIV.

  • Bizarre birther theory suggests Donald Trump was born in PAKISTAN before he was adopted and taken to America

Before he was adopted and taken to America when his parents died in a car accident Trump was born in Pakistan according to the  News.

A bizarre claim that Donald Trump was born in Pakistan before being adopted and taken to America has emerged online.

Pakistani news channel Neo News ran an extraordinary report suggesting that the President-elect was born as Dawood Ibrahim Khan in Waziristan in 1946.

Viewers immediately ridiculed the story, which was aired on Neo News last month before the election but has recently re-surfaced.

In the news report, the presenter claims: 'Believe it or not, Presidential candidate Donald Trump was born in Pakistan and not in America.'

The news channel also showed a picture of a young blond boy, which they claimed was a young Trump in Pakistan.

The bizarre theory is that Trump was taken to London by a British-Indian army captain, after his birth parents died in a car accident, before being adopted and taken to America in 1955.

Social media users took to Twitter to mock the news report.

One person tweeted: 'Seriously!????!!! . Pakistani news channel claims Trump was born in Pakistan !!! Seriously ????'

Another said 'This is insane', while one person simply added: 'Lol... Pakistani media is reporting Donald Trump was born in Pakistan!'

A series of unfounded tweets appear to be have been behind the report, with one person suggesting that Trump had been born into a Muslim family.

Prior to standing for President, Trump himself had for months fueled conspiracy theories over whether Barack Obama was born in the US, and thus eligible to be president.

An exasperated Obama called this nonsense and held a press conference in 2011 to show off his birth certificate, which stated that he was born in Hawaii.

  • Uganda: Drama As Two Friends Swap Wives in Sironko

There was drama in Busati village in Sironko District at the weekend after two close friends and business partners swapped wives to settle a long standing extra marital affair.

The duo, Mr Steven Wesonga and Mr David Woisi agreed at the weekend, (June 11) in a village meeting with residents to exchange their wives in a public gala.

They have reportedly been engaging in extramarital affair with one another's wife for long time.

Mr Wesonga took on Ms Sarah Muduwa, a wife to Mr Woisi. Mr Woisi in return married Mr Wesonga's wife, Ms Annette Namataka.

Mr Wesonga had had five children with his former wife while Mr Woisi had two children from his wife.

Ms Rose Manayanya, the women councillor representing Busati parish in Bukise Sub County, said the two made a right decision to follow their hearts instead of pretending.

"They agreed amicably and we have supported their decision," he said.

Mr Wesonga during the impromptu introduction ceremony told Daily Monitor that he was happy about the whole arrangement.

"I am happy now. I also wish my colleague success with his new wife, who has been my wife," he said.

Mr Woisi also said he was okay with the arrangement but expressed reservation why his colleague was too excited.

Mr Ayub Magombe, a resident, however, termed it as the highest form of immorality, which he said is unacceptable.

"It's morally wrong to exchange women. Its sets a wrong precedent for the new generation," he said.

  • Crammed into rusty cages then sold off to be skinned, boiled and eaten

Thousands of helpless dogs and cats have been squeezed into rusty cages to be sold off, butchered and boiled in China's infamous Yulin festival.

The heartbreaking images from a market in southern China show up to four dogs crammed into single cages a day ahead of the annual event, where as many as 10,000 cats and dogs are slaughtered and eaten.

Some of the animals pictured are still wearing collars - suggesting they were stolen from loving homes - as they await their fate of being beaten to death then having their throats slit in street markets or slaughterhouses.

Animals Asia is among several animal welfare groups crusading against the event, which has sparked global outrage and demands the Chinese government ban the consumption of dog and cat meat.

Animals Asia CEO Jill Robinson told Daily Mail Australia the campaign against the festival is part of a broader battle against dog eating in China, where 10 million canines are eaten annually.

'The festival is horrific, but the issue goes far beyond this event alone. Ending the Yulin Dog Meat Festival is an significant first step to ending dog and cat meat eating across China,' she said.

'Members of our team met with Government Yulin officials ahead of this years event and they agreed to help crackdown on the practice, but there is still a way to go before it is officially outlawed.'

Research from the group found the vast majority of animals used in the festival are stolen - a method that is cheaper and easier than farming.

'Stealing dogs is quicker, easier and more profitable than farming them. Many of the dogs are wearing collars and are visibly confused, which is evidence supported by our research showing the majority are stolen. This makes the festival a social welfare issue as well as one of cruelty.'

Many of the stolen animals die on long journeys from across China while others suffer horrendous injuries that they cannot stand in the filthy pens they are confined to.

Once the festival kicks off  the dogs are clubbed over the head or have their throats slit before they are thrown into boiling water. They later have their hair plucked off and organs removed before being grilled and eaten.

  • Gambia bans music, drumming and dancing in Ramadan

The Gambia has banned music, dancing and drumming during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, on pain of being arrested - and people are complying, police said.

Ordinary citizens in the small west African country - whose president declared it an Islamic state in December - are being urged to report anyone seen engaging in the activities to authorities, a spokesman said on Monday.

"People are complying with the police order banning drumming and dancing during the month of Ramadan and so far no one has been arrested by the police for violating it," police spokesperson Lamin Njie told the AFP news agency.

A police statement published last week warned that "all ceremonies, festivities and programmes that involve drumming, music and dance during the day or at night are prohibited".

"All those engaged in the practice are therefore warned to desist from such acts otherwise they will be eventually apprehended and face the full force of the law without compromise," it said.

    Gambia: An Islamic state

President Yahya Jammeh announced in December that the Gambia had become an Islamic state, but stressed that the rights of the Christian minority would be respected and that women would not be held to a dress code.

A few weeks later it emerged that female civil servants had been ordered to cover their hair at work, according to a leaked government memo, although the presidency subsequently announced the measure had been dropped.

  • Eritrea blames Ethiopia for border clash

Eritrea says Ethiopia has launched an attack at the countries' contested border. Ethiopia has not commented.

Fighting broke out on Sunday in the Tsorona area, about half-way along the heavily-militarised frontier.

Residents on the Ethiopian side of the border reported hearing gunfire and seeing a large movement of troops and artillery towards the border.

A peace deal in 2000 ended the countries' two-year war but it has not been fully implemented.

The conflict, over the exact location of the border led to the deaths of an estimated 80,000 people.

    Africa Live: BBC news updates

Ethiopia "unleashed an attack against Eritrea on the Tsorona Central Front. The purpose and ramifications of this attack are not clear," the Eritrean governmentsaid in a short statement issued on Sunday night.

It does not mention any casualties.

Ethiopia's Information Minister Getachew Reda, who is out of the country, told the BBC he was not aware of the fighting.

As part of the Algiers peace agreement signed in 2000 both countries agreed to accept the ruling of an independent boundary commission over the location of the frontier as "final and binding".

But after the commission ruled that the disputed town of Badme was in Eritrea, Ethiopia at first refused to agree to the border demarcation and then called for dialogue before it would implement the decision.

Eritrea rejected this and as a consequence the countries have since been in a state of "neither war nor peace", says the BBC's Emmanuel Igunza in Nairobi.

Clashes at the border have happened in the past but they are rare occurrences.

Eritrea last month marked 25 years since it gained independence from Ethiopia after a long civil war.
